Edinburgh to York

Thursday 12th (I think....)
We bid farewell to Scotland and spent the rest of the day travelling down (across and occasionally around) the countryside toward York.

We stopped at Durham for a few hours and spent most of that around the market centre of the city and the Cathedral/Castle area. The cathedral was absolutely beautiful and the stained glass windows amazing. I think I am still at that stage of "wow" rather than "nice cathedral but not as good as ...."
The GPS kept us on track (we love you British Andrew!) and we used the Park and Ride system at Durham so that we didn't have to contend with the limited parking in the city centre. The cathedral was a peaceful respite from some of the busier parts of town and sitting in the Cloisters area (photo with the light coming through the hallway) was very relaxing.

Arrived in York about 6.30 pm and had a short walk around the city area (update and photos later). Wish I had paid a lot more attention in High School history as everywhere we turn there is another significant building or site.
