We travelled from the Lake District this morning stopping to visit Rydal Mount (the home of William Wordsworth from 1813 until his dealth in 1850) at Ambleside. It was a lovely setting and as we were there reasonably early we had the place to ourselves for a short while.
The whole of the Lake District is just absolutely beautiful and is somewhere we would return to if we ever came back to the UK.We slowly made our way to Carlisle Castle (surprisingly at Carlisle)
via Keswick and the GPS has been an invaluable addition (with the exception of a couple of minor misdirections). We are becoming very fond of "British Andrew" (the voice that guides us along the way) and he helps keep our stress levels manageable.
We continued on through Scotland until reaching Edinburgh about 6 pm. The countryside is very green with splashes of purple from heather and something that looks very much like lupins. We have been for a stroll along the beach tonight. We are at Portobello which is quite close to Musselburgh - no excuse for getting lost here!! Tomorrow is sightseeing in Edinburgh itself and we will do our best to remember Jim's instructions on how to get about.
